I am not sure what theme I want at my reception, Las Vegas seems too extravagant but I want something exciting yet refined. Any ideas?
to me, wedding receptions don’t really need themes, but since u did ask….. i have 2 suggestions off the top of my head. they’re a little off-the-wall, but ehhhh maybe someone will like them.
one is james bond: the color scheme would be red/black/white (very dramatic & romantic if done correctly, otherwise it can look spooky). you’d serve special martinis. everyone would already look the part. maybe have a small orchestra, or at least play some Bond theme music (there are some romantic tunes from the soundtracks, i’m not saying play "die another day" or anything, hahaha). this is also a good way to include some gambling elements, but in a sophisticated manner, w/o the Vegas over-the-top-ness.
the other suggestion is the phantom of the opera: similar red/black/white color scheme. have beautiful rose centerpieces w/ a few phantom masks strewn about… it might turn it into a masquerade ball. a location featuring a chandelier would be beautiful for this.

10. Football. Football stadiums are increasingly popular as wedding venues but even if this is a bit out of your league you can create a footie-themed occasion to remember. Use your team’s colours for your décor, name your tables after favourite players, and have the bride throw a football instead of her bouquet!

My fair lady – people could be dressed (and behave as) all extremes of characters from that film such as the ‘common folk’ on the market square to the refined likes of Henry Higgins and it would still look like a wedding at the end of the day – while catering in such a way that every sort of guest can express himself!

my sister had a casino theme at her wedding reception. She had a roulette table, black jack table and a craps table.(not sure where she hired the people from but I’m sure you could google it) It was a fab ice breaker and filled in the boring bit when they clear the tables away for the evening do. They gave out ‘£100′ to each guest in fake money and then there was a prize for the person who won the most ‘money’
The only trouble was it proved so popular that no one wanted to break away to watch the first dance!!!
PS As favours they had a little envelope for each guest which contained a scratchcard and a brand new shiny penny to scratch it with.
PPS My sister is not a compulsive gambler by the way!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Make it a champagne brunch reception (morning weddings are nice too). Use tiffany box’s for the wedding favors and a stacked tiffany box cake for the cake. You can have a string quartet for the music and an open bar. I just described my own wedding! It was great!

I doubt I would choose a theme for my wedding but if I did I think I’d like historical era themes such as Medieval banquet.
Or you could use Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and have a group of actors do the wedding play at your reception.
