What "southern dishes" could we serve at our reception? My wedding theme is Southern Flair .?

What ideas do you have for a Southern style wedding in September? My braidsmaid dresses and linens are the color "coral". Do you have tips? Thanks!

There are tons of food ocmbinations available for you. I just depends on how Southern you want to be. You can go traditional Southern or you can do Southern with a twist by presenting Southern favorites as finger foods if you are doing passed hors douvres (sp?)

For example:
Mac-n-cheese or Mac-n-cheese puff pastries
Crabcakes or mini crabcakes
Cornbread, hushpuppies or little cornbread cakes
Fried green tomatoes are pretty
Sweet potatoes, whipped sweet potatoes, sweet potato quiches
Greens or green beans
Fried corn
Black-eyed peas
Smothered chicken with rice and gravy
Country fried steak

Ok, I’m getting hungry. Hope this helps. Congratulations!

Sweet iced tea is a must. Fried chicken is definitely southern, so is macaroni and cheese. Ribs or pork barbecue are both southern. Shrimp and grits, crab cakes, fried green tomatoes are all southern.

Fried chicken, mac and cheese, collards, white rice, biscuits, gravy, kitchen fried steak, sweet potato pie, and most importantly, and it’s CRUCIAL that you get this down… SWEET TEA! it cannot be unsweetened with sugar in it, that’s not right at all. if you need to, get it flown in from Georgia. I live in Georgia and I’ve been to resetraunts where they try to serve raspberry sweet tea or unsweetened with sugar or splenda, and it’s nasty.

Most of the southern wedding receptions I have attended lately just served heavy hors d’oeuvres.

    I suggest:
Meatballs and cocktail franks in bbq sauce can be kept warm in a crockpot. Assorted finger sandwiches, fruit tray and dip, veggie tray and dip, cheese and crackers. Marinated crab claws. Boiled shrimp. Maybe some type of pasta salad? Rotel dip and chips. Deviled eggs. Mini quiche. Open bar.

And in addition to the wedding cake, one must also have a groom’s cake. The groom’s cake usually reflects one of the groom’s hobbies or interests.

Sometimes there will be a carving station . . . and ham, turkey , or roast beef will be served. Perhaps a spinach dip and crackers? Maybe taco dip and tortilla chips? Perhaps seafood-stuffed mushroom caps? Chocolate-covered strawberries?

Quite honestly (and no disrespect intended to the other responders), I have never attended a southern wedding where fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and biscuits and gravy, or sweet potato pie were served. Sorry, but that is the truth.

Here is an example of a southern wedding menu (that is, if Louisiana is far enough south for everybody, LOL).
