Is your wedding/reception themed or are you just sticking with style (casual vs formal) and colors? If so, what’s your theme?

Congratulations!

I had an actual theme: Japan

because my husband and I are moving there for four years (Air Force). plus were really like the culture.

so basically we got a bunch of dark pink cherry blossoms all over the place, pink ribbons, cherry blossom themed invitations and party favors.

If you are having a theme, do it with something both of you have a passion for. Some examples:
- what hobby do you share
- location of the place you met
- theme of your first date (restaurant theme?)
- your honeymoon destination
- favorite food you enjoy

Good luck!

This party will be a backyard bash for a sendoff for our Alaskan honeymoon in Virigina. I’m already serving Salmon for dinner and maybe some crab, and chocolate "moose" for dessert (food seems to be my speciality here). We will have a fire pit out back. Need ideas for cake, party favors, decorations, or some other items to make it more of an Alaska send off. Maybe something to do with puddle jumpers. Any one know of widely available Alaskan beer?

What in the heck are puddle jumpers? And we don’t have igloos all over the place, seriously. Baked Alaska would be a great desert, better than moose actually. The fire pit is awesome, and will do good. Beer, I always see my parents go for Alaskan Amber… don’t know if it is good or not. If you have a cake, try having pinecone decorations on it or maybe like fly fishing gear wrapped around it (just don’t do hooks lol) something outdoorsy looking. There was a wedding here where the couple got married on a muskocks farm, and a lot just out in the mountains. The best decoration would be some kind of fishnet little goody bags, tied together with fishing string and inside of it put those sweedish fish in it. Leave those on everyones table. There is soooo much you could do, for sure, look up alaska bride on google and I am sure you will find stories and ideas that will help you plan!

Hi everyone. So I am getting married in June and even though I live in California with my fiance we are going to travel all the way to Germany for this, because that’s where most of my family is. His family is quite small, so it was the better choice.

Anyway, how can I make a theme out of our two heritages? America and Germany. I’m having trouble getting inspired! How could I incorporate this into the decorations, the invitations, and so on and so forth?

Does anyone have ideas?
Thanks so much :)
By the way, I know the German and American traditions, so I think I’m good on that. I can’t think any further though …

That is really cool! Personally, I would keep it more with the German decorations. The Americans who attend will think it is really cool, and I think it will mean more to you in the end. Or you could mix the colors by having red, white, blue, and gold, red and black. Have the different tables covered in the traditional American flag, as well as the German flag. Man this is a tough one! My parents were married in Germany and they had a castle theme.

What ideas do you have for a Southern style wedding in September? My braidsmaid dresses and linens are the color "coral". Do you have tips? Thanks!

There are tons of food ocmbinations available for you. I just depends on how Southern you want to be. You can go traditional Southern or you can do Southern with a twist by presenting Southern favorites as finger foods if you are doing passed hors douvres (sp?)

For example:
Mac-n-cheese or Mac-n-cheese puff pastries
Crabcakes or mini crabcakes
Cornbread, hushpuppies or little cornbread cakes
Fried green tomatoes are pretty
Sweet potatoes, whipped sweet potatoes, sweet potato quiches
Greens or green beans
Fried corn
Black-eyed peas
Smothered chicken with rice and gravy
Country fried steak

Ok, I’m getting hungry. Hope this helps. Congratulations!

I am having a destination wedding in Antigua and looking for inexpensive ideas to decorate my post wedding reception in that theme.
Thanks!
My post wedding reception will be in NH..and in January!! Help!!

We did the same thing this past February. We were married in the Caribbean (just us) and had a "celebration" when we returned.

As for the celebration…
We didn’t do anything traditional. We had all of our guests dress in casual Caribbean attire (linens, bright colors, sandals, etc) and all of the food and drinks were inspired by the Caribbean (jerk chicken, a lot of fruits, etc). We opted to do only appetizers and desserts…because we it to be a social event…not because of money (a meal would have been less). With all of the appetizers…no one went home without a full stomach anyway! :) There was no first dance, no bouquet toss, no garter toss, no cake cutting…nothing like that. We already had our cake and our first dance. We wanted the party to be low key…very run and still romantic. We decorated with a ton of flowers and palms (all real, of course). There were a lot of baskets and different textures. We only used white Christmas lights and candle light for lighting….that made it "warm" and romantic.

__
Ours was in Februrary and there was plenty of snow. :) We just made sure that the building was very warm. The candles helped with that also.

I am not sure what theme I want at my reception, Las Vegas seems too extravagant but I want something exciting yet refined. Any ideas?

to me, wedding receptions don’t really need themes, but since u did ask….. i have 2 suggestions off the top of my head. they’re a little off-the-wall, but ehhhh maybe someone will like them.

one is james bond: the color scheme would be red/black/white (very dramatic & romantic if done correctly, otherwise it can look spooky). you’d serve special martinis. everyone would already look the part. maybe have a small orchestra, or at least play some Bond theme music (there are some romantic tunes from the soundtracks, i’m not saying play "die another day" or anything, hahaha). this is also a good way to include some gambling elements, but in a sophisticated manner, w/o the Vegas over-the-top-ness.

the other suggestion is the phantom of the opera: similar red/black/white color scheme. have beautiful rose centerpieces w/ a few phantom masks strewn about… it might turn it into a masquerade ball. a location featuring a chandelier would be beautiful for this.

anyway sorry if i rambled. good luck!!

My guy and i are planning on having a rockabilly/1950s themed wedding reception and we were wondering which venue in Sydney would suit what we’re trying to go for?
Doesn’t have to be a large venue- we’re planning on having only 100 guests.

The Studio at the Sydney Opera house.

What aspects of me & my fiance’s lives & personalities can I draw on to come up with some ideas for a very unique & personal wedding reception. Where can I find very unique wedding & reception theme ideas? It will be in September..

Aspects : What do you two like to do together ? Think of a game you play , a food you eat together, replaying your whole first date again ??

Think about some of your fave things as a couple and put this into a wedding theme .

Its not too original but my sister in law and her husband both liked to play cards. He was a Texas Holdem freak and she liked to play PITCH. They also loved sailing … so they had a small wedding on a yacht with casino and card games as part of the reception.
