Why do you need a theme name? Having a theme is not necessary–wedding unto itself is a theme.

Ok so I am just getting started on planning my wedding which is taking place October 2009 in Destin, FL. My favorite movie is The Notebook and my fiance and I absolutely love this movie. I would love to incorporate this theme in my beach wedding/reception and could use some suggestions. Thanks!

Well how much "beach" theme are you wanting? There are numerous ways to include it. Favors can be anything from yankee candles (Sand and Sun scent) to laffy taffy to Godiva chocolate shells. The centerpieces can be conch shells or bowls of water.

I mean typical Nautical theme is going to be anchors, fish, shells, and colors of navy blue and white.

Or the pink of the inside of the shell and the blue/gray of the ocean.

Other sand colors involve sea grass and sand/beige. You could be using salt and sand in your centerpieces. Lanterns or lighthouses.

There is really a lot you can do. I had a tropical theme and I used tiki torches, burning outside and inside with long grass stuck in the top. Pictures definitely set the scene. You can either use pictures of the two of you on the beach or big posters of beach scenes. You could also go write in the beach and take pictures of that. Consider writing your names, I love you, and quotes from the movie. There are lots of photo collages you could make of those shots or borrow 8×10 picture frames from everyone you know and use those beach shots and the frame as your centerpieces. Maybe even see if you can find a shot of the wooden rowboat like they had in the film and since WWII was a crucial part of that movie, that famous photo "August 1945"

Really there is so much you can do with a beach theme and with the movie. Think about what colors you really like and what you think of when you think of your wedding.

Centerpieces: A chessboard in the middle of the table with the heads of red roses scattered across it.

Favours: With all the chessboards you have for centerpieces, you should have gotten a bunch of chesspieces. Give them away as favours. Tie a ribbon around them and attach a made-up a lovey-dovey poem for each type of piece. (Don’t give out the King and Queen!)

White tablecloths with black napkins. Black chair covers with white sashes.

Bridal Bouquet: A hand-tied bouquet of Penny Black Nemophila and Red Gerbera Daisies.

Feature a black and white checkered dance floor.

Get a double ice luge in the shape of King and Queen chess pieces.

Use a King and a Queen from the chess sets as cake-toppers. The cake should alternate layers: 1 checkerboard, one white with black flowers drawn on. Between each layer, fill the space with red roses.

Has anyone ideas for the colour scheme for a pearls and lace theme wedding. One of the colours has to be ivory (ivory pearls and lace) but I am not sure what to combine it with. Ideas on other aspects to tie in the theme would be much appreciated, I am so stuck! I am wanting my wedding to be elegant yet modern. Thankyou so much if you can help!
The wedding will be in march (uk). Any ideas for flowers too. My partner will not have pink or anything resembling pink, I was thinking blue maybe?? with accents of.?

Well, they had a wedding featured on the TV show "Whose Wedding is it Anyway?" that incorporated the pearls & lace that had pale pink, hot pink, ivory, and peach. It was beautiful! But if the man won’t do pink, that won’t work!

The pale blue could work, but I would definitely choose a darker blue to accent it too. Otherwise, I am afraid it will look like a baby boy shower!

What about ivory, champagne, gold, & maybe orange or coral? Those are great together! And the orange is very modern and popular right now! Do mirror tiles on some of the tables, with strands of pearls everywhere, then place gold candle holders of different sizes and orange rose petals. For another look, do clear stanga (or eiffel tower) vases with a flower arranement on top with orange, ivory, and yellow flowers. Have the pearls hanging down from it. Sit it on a puddle of lace fabric.

Hope these ideas help!

I want a colorful wedding with a unique theme. How does a masquerade sound as a wedding theme? All the quest will wear mask and beads.

and if the theme isn’t bad where could we have the wedding. I mean, i don’t think a church will appropriate the theme and all.

I think a masquerade would be cute, but you would definitely have to be the one providing the masks if you want guests to wear them.

However, on the practical side of things. I can’t think of anyone who would want to wear a mask during a ceremony – they block your vision and for those who cry, a mask would only get in the way. I think it would also be strange if the guests of honor (that would be you and your groom) were not also masked.

Perhaps if you want bright colors try a Mardi Gras/ Carnival (as in Venice) theme. Masks can still be worn by those who want to, but not required.

Location-wise, I would go for an garden-type spot. Local conservatories/tea houses/parks normally will help yo to arrange weddings at their spot. If you plan it for a time when many flowers are blooming, then you get the added bonus of all that natural color.

My fiancé and I are going to Hawaii for are wedding ceremony. There will be 8 guest. We want to have are reception in Michigan. Im in love with elegance with a touch of Hawaii (without being cheesy) to give our guest a filling of actually being there.

White or pastel table linens, simple flower arrangements, because tropical flowers are not cheap.
You can buy bags of shells online…just Google "wedding shells" and you’ll be surprised how many stores there are. Good for table decor.
A simple cake with tropical flowers, and "luau-ish" food and you’re all set.
The leis are a nice idea too. You can do Hawaiian without doing cheesy Hawaiian.
