I need some wedding theme ideas?

I am having a hard time deciding what to do. Our favorite colors are baby blue and silver. I also like pink, but pink and blue would be kind of tacky and remind me of a baby shower. We are looking at a date of May 17, 2008. So it will be a spring wedding. I am not really interested in a luau theme. It is going to be a formal wedding and we are having the reception at a very nice resort. I want something that is totally unique and something that everyone will remember as being one of the coolest! Yeah I guess I am a little competitive and I want to out do every wedding I have ever been to, this is my special day after all. But No I definately am not a stuck up rich girl or anything even close. I also thought of a Hollywood/red carpet theme because there is a beautiful dress I found that has red trim, but I am afraid that red and black will be kinda scary colors for a wedding, what do you think? I will take any ideas, themes, favors, whatever you may have that is unique! Thanks!
Any interesting ideas for kids, since I have 2 of my own I want all of them to have a great time! Ideas to get the guests involved, games or different things besides the usually dancing, sitting, bs’ing
Not necessarily games, but for the guests to be involved and have a lot of fun besides the usual dancing.

you could have a spring theme as in New Beginnings, using your fave colors with pinks and yellows….if you wanted……in addition, if you just don’t want blue and pink together, blue and green are very pretty, especially in a spring wedding.

I think the black and red theme would be very classy. Those colors would make a very elegant wedding.

However, now I dont understand why you’re looking for games foryour wedding if you say you want it classy and out do all the other weddings you’ve been to.

Ive always wanted an outdoor wedding, in a park or beach. Then a reception that was outdoors, but under canopy tents, all catered..a beach theme for food(finger foods, snack foods, bbq, clams, oysters, etc) A dj that plays a wide variety of traditional music, mixed with tropics, reggae type music.

Have a dollar dance(but instead of keeping the money, donate it to a charity). a $1 gets a minute dance with the bride or groom. I think that would get ya points for being a positive wedding experience.

Are you considering anything like horse drawn carriages, or fireworks display? I know here in Wisconsin, near where i live, theres a company that does displays. The price includes, set up, the display(30 minutes) and take down..the works…..Maybe find someone who will do that.

    Good luck!!
    So many Ideas!!!

I think that red and black is very elegant and it is very popular right now. I have done many different themed weddings. I honestly have never heard of the red carpet/hollywood theme. I think you could do some very spectacular things with that in decorations and favors, however… if you’re having it at a resort what about something like Great Gatsby? or the 1920′s? You can buy lanterns from a craft store and antique them with solvent you can buy at the craft store… and make centerpieces with a bunch of them and tea lights.. with red roses as centerpiece accents.
You can do a rainforest theme… which can be very cool and different and kids would love it. You can buy cheap greenery from a craft store, and then either use silk or real flowers to accent. Then you can have your red accent dress too.
With the blue and silver, you can do alot too… when I think of blue and silver I think of cinderella. Which i know is juvenile, but on your wedding day you should feel like a princess!! There are wedding cakes, and invitations with cinderella on them.. and you can do alot of different things with centerpieces.
Also, I had a bride and groom who wanted to get married in Disney World, but couldn’t afford the big wedding they wanted… so we brought disney to them. We purchased different snow-globes with the different disney characters and placed them on pedestals on each of the tables, with some fresh flowers and tea lights. Her colors were red, gold and black (like Mickey’s costume) and it turned out really pretty. She had mickey and minnie on the invitations and place cards… and the favors were chocolates in little boxes that were stamped with silver disney stamps. (I know this is WAY different… but thought I would suggest it)
Because you’re having it at a resort, you can also have a yacht theme. http://www.myjeanm.com has centerpieces that are crystal glass sailboats that you can but a tea light in, and then you can put those blue crystal discs (the things you put in the bottom of a vase) scattered around the tables.
You can get your guests involved… how about having like an ice cream sundae bar where people can make their own sundaes, or deserts. You can do this with many different things… like a hamburger bar, or pasta bar… it’s different and unique and gets your guests up and about.
Really the sky is the limit…. I hope I gave you some ideas… good luck!!!

Nowadays, the red theme is coming back, and rather dark colors for wedding dresses are suddenly back. In fact, in the 1800s (we featured it at the museum I worked at) the bride usually wore black–most practical and doesnt show dirt.

I did see a wedding held at the museum where the bride wore chic black sheath while all the guests wore white or red. It was very trendy and modern, and well done.

My daughter recently had such a quandary, not with color, but with venue: where to have such an event where everyone will have a good time.

They wanted a destination wedding (and those are available on the web…all sorts) and as grandma lives on maui and wanted somewhere else to go, they decided on Las Vegas. The wedding at the Wynn is to be elegant, well planned—they take the couple out in a limo 2 days ahead for blood tests and legal documents I think, and then arrange for the rehearsal the day before, and the evening wedding is from 6-730 with an hour ahead 5-6 for preparation. They are having it so classy, and providing flowers for all, or some, and photographer, etc. All sorts of packages, and combinations available, and they are not even staying at the hotel.

You would be surprised: she invited 95 people and 80 have already said they would come, and that is from everywhere! It should be a fun time, with something for everyone ahead of time.

You mentioned kids: one wedding I went to, had a pinata for kids to break. That was fun to watch, while adults were dancing and eating.

Enjoy and have a great time, wherever you pick. (It helps if you can have most of it paid off ahead of time! )

Do a renisauce theme or go Victorian. Your gown can be a princess style with a long train and he can be in a coat and tails your bridesmaides could be in princess style. The kids can dress up like the adults.

When I read you are having it at a resort, I immediately thought bright blue and light orange, or bright blue and white.
Choose your dress and wedding theme colors separately, you dont have to be matchy-matchy.
Bright blue lends itself to bold stripes. For example, the seating cards, you could get white cards and paint a stripe across the top with bright blue watercolor paint. Each would look slightly different. I think that would really match the resort feeling.
Or, I have seen lots of bold flower patterns for wedding stationery, that would look really good too!
Personally, Im not into the Hollywood theme because its at a resort and you just want to keep it fun and bright!

You can do beach theme invitations.
You can tie shells, silver and baby blue ribbons on the backs of chair covers.

Agree with previous posts that Red & Black can be very classy if you decorate the venue right – Hollywood theme would be perfect for those colors
Or you can go with your favorite colors: Blue & Silver and have a Spa theme since the wedding is at the resort. For the spa theme, you can give fancy, decorative soaps as wedding favors. See site below:
