Any good ideas for a black and white wedding theme?

I am planning a black and white wedding for September of next year. I know I want my bridesmaids wearing black dresses and am thinking about using little bits of red and/or silver for accents. Any ideas for flowers, groomsmen’s tuxes, or reception decor?

If you are doing such a classic color scheme (white and black). Add an equally dramatic and elegant color. I’d do black bridesmaid’s dresses. For the bridesmaid’s bouquets, I’d have big all-white rose bouquets. For your bouquet, have a large all-crimson red rose bouquet. I think the contrasts in colors will be amazing. The red against your dress and the white against the black. It will be so bold and really gorgeous, but in a good way.

For the guys, have them wear classic black tuxes or suits. Have black vests and Crimson red ties. Each groomsmen gets a single white rose for their tux. The groom gets a red Crimson one.

That sounds like a cool idea. You could do white roses for your bridesmaids and carry red roses yourself. The groomsmen could have white flowers in their lapels and your fiancé could have a red rose.

I would put my maids in black dresses with red ribbon sashes and red shoes. And I’d have them carry red roses. It would definitely kick it up a notch.

Or to stick purely to the black & white theme, black maids dresses, black shoes with silver accents, bold silver jewelry, white or red roses tied with silver metallic ribbons. Or white roses accented with crystals for sparkle tied in silver.

Men’s tuxes: Black tuxes, white shirts, black vests with a black tie and a red pocket hankie. Or you can do vests in color, but definitely black tux, white shirt.

I would keep the tables black and white and just accent with red or silver in the centerpieces. Or go with a silver and crystal centerpiece, so that everything looks shimmery and icy.

Its going to be gorgeous no matter what you choose. Black and white is so elegant.

Try: http://www.weddingbycolor.com and choose black for the "colors" page to get some ideas.

If you are on a budget, try using dark red carnations. The recent In Style magazine has an article on using carnations for weddings. They actually look very nice when you use one single color.

Well I have to agree with the other posters. I did a black and white wedding myself and I carried a bouquet of charlotte red roses with pearls and crystals in them. The ladies wore black dresses. I allowed them to pick their own dresses with the stipulation it was either black or black and white two tone, it had to be chiffon and floor length.
I used red mostly in the flowers. The ladies carried white roses and white stephanotis. Groom had a red rose bout and the guys had white bouts. Groom wore a different jacket but otherwise they all had red vests and a black and red tie.
Table underlays were black and overlays were white and white chair covers. Red roses for the cake and on the tables.

Those colors are so elegant and classy. You just can’t go wrong with them.

Red is good for the girls wearing black dresses, however the bride should stay away from a red bouquet. Flowers are supposed to accent the look not overwhelm it. When the bride wears white and carries a red bouquet, the first thing people will notice is the red flowers, the first thing they should notice is the brides face and then the gown. I think it would be classier to use silver accents instead of red. Just be careful the silver doesn’t look like gray.
